Recognised for his progressive approach to sustainable design, Sean Wotherspoon strikes again with the adidas Gazelle Indoor Green Hemp.

Now, if you’re familiar with Wotherspoon’s work, you’ll know that a hemp-infused sneaker is a pretty on-brand move for the designer and vintage dealer. His Instagram page even features samples of the eco-friendly endeavours dating all the way back to July, much to the appreciation of tens of thousands of sneaker and fashion aficionados. Last month saw the release of his Mylo leather-coated pair of Gazelles, and if you’re not big on technical textile jargon, we’re talking ‘shrooms. Unfortunately not the magic kind, although the unique kicks definitely possess an ethereal charm that differs from the norm. Mushroom talk aside, the release at hand continues on the planet-conscious wave, now utilising fibre from the cannabis plant as its latest muse. Let’s take a closer look…

The stand-out feature of these kicks, being the entirely hemp embroidered upper, adopts a green and white exterior. The white woven linework emulates the conventional suede panelling that we’d typically see on within the Gazelle, executed neatly for a sophisticated look. In addition to green and white, orange heel tabs bring a pop of colour, also hosting Wotherspoon’s branding. Located just above a label that reads ‘hemp’ alongside a weed-plant-resembling Trefoil emblem, the offering feels notably laid-back despite the complex detail. Maybe it’s the hemp rubbing off on us. Rounding off the silhouette with a translucent gum midsole and unique cork insole; the sustainable essence is what makes these kicks so special. Eco-friendly AND fashion forward – we love to see it!
