Introducing the Nike Air Max 95
Since its debut in the mid-1990s, the Nike Air Max 95 has been a global success, gaining particular popularity in Japan, where sneaker enthusiasts admire its bold design and athletes value its responsiveness.
When it first appeared in 1995, the model was referred to simply as the Air Max, or the Air Max SC, before eventually being recognised as the Air Max 95.
Designed by Sergio Lozano, the silhouette was inspired by human anatomy: the rib-like lacing system, spine-inspired outsole, and mesh upper resembling muscle fibres. This anatomical look was achieved by layering stitched and compression-moulded synthetic suede across the upper.
The Air Max 95 also broke new ground as the first in the series to incorporate forefoot Air cushioning. Other notable details included a smaller Swoosh placed on the heel and the introduction of a black outsole, designed to better conceal dirt - a first for the Air Max line.
