CloudTec by On is a revolutionary cushioning technology that features individual cushion pods called ‘cloud elements’ on its outsole.
Cloud elements provide targeted cushioning upon impact, resulting in a soft landing that reduces joint strain. As you push off, the elements become a stable platform for a powerful toe-off.
The lightweight and adaptive technology increases comfort, responsiveness, and overall running performance, giving you the feeling of running on clouds.
CleanCloud
CleanCloud is helping On to move away from fossil-based materials by using high-performance materials made from carbon emissions.
By converting carbon emissions into liquid ethanol and then dehydrating it to become ethylene gas, and polymerizing that to create EVA pellets, CleanCloud can use this EVA to engineer high-performance foam cushioning for On's running shoes.
While not available for purchase yet, On have managed to create the first ever CleanCloud shoe using this method: the Cloudprime. It combines a polyester-based textile upper with CloudTec in a CleanCloud EVA foam midsole, a 40% bio-based castor bean speedboard, and a 35% upcycled TPU outsole.
The History Of On
2010
Founded by Olivier Bernhard, David Allemann, and Caspar Coppetti in Switzerland, On is inspired by Bernhard's desire to find a running shoe with cushioning and a natural sensation.
The Cloudsurfer is introduced, the first On shoe with CloudTec® cushioning technology that uses cloud pods on the outsole.
2015
In 2015 On introduced the Cloudrunner, a shoe designed for long-distance running and endurance training.
2017
The Cloudventure was released as On's first trail shoe. With enhanced outsole durability and traction, the waterproof upper offers enhanced support on off-road runs.
2018
On releases Cloudace, a shoe for runners seeking stability, comfort, and support.
The "Roger" collection was created in collaboration with tennis legend Roger Federer, combining tennis-inspired design with On's innovative technology.
2020
Eleven athletes form On's first-ever track team, the OAC (On Athletics Club) on a quest to become champions. Three-time US Olympian Dathan Ritzenhein leads the team, who train hard to achieve their dreams at a full-time training facility located in Boulder, Colorado.
On Running Today
By conducting research at OnLab, On continues to innovate in the footwear industry. The company's in-house research facility strives to meet sustainability goals while creating shoes with the least carbon footprint possible.
They maintain a social responsibility by using fossil-free materials and circular business models, as well as positively impacting the athletic world with their designs.
