Introducing the adidas Spezial
As indoor sports such as handball and squash rose in popularity, adidas introduced the Spezial line in the late 1970s. Originally created as an indoor performance shoe, it soon found a following in subcultures ranging from football casuals to music communities.
Revived in 2014 as a dedicated collection by adidas curator and longtime brand enthusiast Gary Aspden, the Spezial line celebrates adidas’ rich heritage through archive-inspired footwear.
Blending retro aesthetics with modern sensibilities, Spezial designs draw directly from vintage models, featuring colourblocking, distinctive toe shapes, and throwback branding that nods to classic sportswear.
Crafted with premium materials like suede, leather, and nylon, the collection combines durability with a timeless look, making it a standout in adidas’ lifestyle offerings.
