At the beginning of 2023, everyone’s favourite UK retailer Offspring took home the crown of the inaugural adidas Consortium, against 16 other names around the globe. Rightfully earning the winning title after four tough rounds, the momentous final welcomed the adidas Response RS OZWEEGO. 

As well as being an impressive retailer, Offspring knows a thing or two about designing kicks. Choosing to put their spin on the adidas Samba, Centennial Low and ZX8000 silhouettes throughout the competition, the final round required tapping into the Three-Stripes archives to bring something truly special into the mix. Cleverly mixing elements from Raf Simons’ RS OZWEEGO and Response CL to deliver the winning hybrid offering, the adidas Response RS OZWEEGO looks to the nostalgic £1 note as its design concept. A Closer Look at the Offspring x adidas Response RS OZWEEGO (JI2066)…

When initially thinking about a £1 note as the point of inspiration for a pair of kicks, you might be wondering just how the retailer pulled it off. The devil is in the details! Let’s start with the palette, for instance, which expresses hues of pale green, mauve and grey to reflect the note itself, and cream and beige that reflects the Bank of England’s walls. 

The synergy of two discontinued objects, the note and RS OZWEEGO silhouette, ensure a nostalgic yet contemporary feel, brought up-to-speed with an array of premium textiles. Continuing the motif of intricate detailing, the holographic logo and midsole contains hidden references that can also be found on bank notes. And if all of those highly considered touches weren’t enough to impress you, the debossed custom serial number and on-theme lace tab are sure to seal the deal. A well deserved win from Offspring.
