Carefully curated by the founder himself, Gary Aspden, adidas Spezial prepare for Autumn/Winter 2023 with a dynamic capsule of footwear and apparel.
Derived with an overriding focus on heritage-inspired designs, adidas Spezial infuses inspiration straight outta the archives. Since its debut in the 80s, Aspden has cracked the code of creating progressive designs that exude vintage nostalgia, a skill that’s landed nicely with sneaker connoisseurs and fashion fanatics alike. Utilising performance-based silhouettes along the way, it’s clear that the Spezial sub-brand has distinguished itself in a lane of its own – offering unparalleled quality and sleek retro aesthetics. Gary Aspden, you’re a G.
Within this autumnal capsule, the Three Stripes are treating us to not one, but seven silhouettes; including all-new designs as well as reimagined models. Christmas has come early! Let’s take a dive into what’s on offer…
The collection first looks at the Moscrop 2 SPZL, arriving with dye cut EVA tooling and a colourway update that sets it apart from last year’s Moscrop SPZL. Also making a return since its debut in February, the Hiaven SPZL lands in a monochromatic persona, equipped for the unpredictability of British weather (thanks adi-Tex membrane!).
Continuing on the wave of combining old and new, adidas Spezial Autumn/Winter 2023 collection welcomes the Invertness SPZL, Englewood SPZL and Lawkholme SPZL. Landing as a progression of the Carnforth SPZL, the Inverness model blurs the line between terrain and leisure construction to achieve an innovative hybrid. Accompanied alongside the capsule’s Haslingden Jacket, a delicious dark chocolate hue floods both offerings. Also boasting an outdoor-intended composition, the Englewood SPZL arrives as a dynamic reimagining of the 80s Galaxy II high top boot. Flaunting a neutral exterior of creamy beige tones, the Lawkholme SPZL expresses a streamlined retro flair, without having to do too much at all. After all, when you have a roster of sneakers this strong, style speaks for itself.
Last, but certainly not least, the footwear department features two colourways of the Samba Deco SPZL. We’re definitely not surprised that the capsule includes a Samba reimagining, especially given the model’s resurgence in popularity and timeless style. The iterations pay homage to an 80s football boot with a black and green colouring, and to the OG ‘70s palette with a brown and white exterior. We’re never going to be mad about an elevated Samba, especially when it’s this sleek!
Tuning into the apparel sector, the collection focuses on producing impeccably executed products whilst utilising recycled materials. Featuring a jacket, anorak, tracksuit, hoodie and season-specific accessories, this Spezial capsule is sure to bring the heat to the impending cold months.
