PUMA Suede Forever in Midnight Petrol, Kona Brown and Silver Fog

Some trainers you just want to stroke. Weird? Maybe. But one look at these and you'll get it.

The PUMA Suede Forever takes the classic Suede and turns the fuzz right up, with properly hairy suede, gum soles and a flash of gold foil. It comes in three autumn-ready colourways, and it's available in the UK right now.

A Closer Look at the PUMA Suede Forever...

Wait, Why Does It Look So Fluffy?

Because that's the whole point. PUMA has wrapped both the upper and the Formstrip in hairy suede, so the nap stands up and gives every pair a soft, slightly worn-in texture straight out of the box.

Rather than being stitched on in a contrast colour, the Formstrip is debossed into the suede, so it stays tonal and only really shows when the light catches it. The only real flash of colour comes from the debossed, foil-printed PUMA branding, which shows up in gold on the side panel.

Pick Your Shade

Three colourways make up the pack, and all of them sit on a warm gum rubber sole:

  • Midnight Petrol (404627-04) – a deep, moody blue-green that looks extra rich next to the gold foil

  • Kona Brown (404627-05) – a tan, almost camel brown that basically matches the gum sole

  • Silver Fog (404627-06) – an off-white grey and the softest-looking of the lot

Anything Worth Spotting Inside?

Flip them over and take a look in. Each pair gets a white PUMA tongue label, and the sockliners carry OrthoLite branding.

According to PUMA UK, the upper is mostly cow leather suede (with a touch of textile), the lining and sockliner are textile, and the outsole is 100% rubber. Standard width, standard lace-up, nothing fussy.

Where Did the Suede Come From?

Quick history lesson. The Suede's roots go back to the PUMA Crack in 1968. In 1973, New York Knicks star Walt 'Clyde' Frazier got his own version, and from that line came the Suede as we know it.

From there, it made the jump from the court to the streets. Over the decades it's become a staple in basketball, hip-hop, breakdance and skate culture, which is pretty impressive for a shoe that's now well into its fifties.

Never Not Suede

The Forever pack is part of PUMA's Never Not Suede campaign, and it's been a busy year for the silhouette. We've already had the A$AP Rocky-backed Suede '94 revival, the delicate Suede Bloom and a Street Fighter collab starring Ryu, Ken and Chun-Li.

Compared to those, the Suede Forever is the low-key one. No collab, no big story, just a really good-looking take on the classic for everyday wear.

Not feeling any of the three? PUMA UK also lists the Suede Forever in Red Rhythm, Cashew Brown, Inky Depths and PUMA Black-Gold, all under the same style code. Have a browse over on PUMA.
