New Balance has been drip-feeding its next 990 for weeks now, and the picture is finally getting clearer. What started as a tiny billboard in downtown Manhattan has turned into a slow reveal, with Rosalía and, most recently, Joe Freshgoods offering up the best looks yet at the New Balance 990v7.
Joe Freshgoods has shared a close-up teaser of a blue-grey pair on Instagram, and it's the most detailed view of the shoe we've had so far. Light blue-grey suede and mesh form the base, while darker overlays add depth across the upper. A large "N" outlined in white sits on the side panel, the heel tab carries "new balance 990" branding, and cream laces pair with a light midsole and layered blue-grey tooling.

It's still very much a 990, but the v7 moves away from the rounded, streamlined shape of the 990v6. The toe box is shorter, the body is longer, and there's noticeably more layering on the upper, including a larger mudguard. The "N" logo lands somewhere between the size of the v6 branding and older versions like the 990v3. Underfoot, the tooling has been reworked too. A softer take on FuelCell has been reported, though New Balance hasn't confirmed the cushioning setup yet.
Before any official word, photographer and Loopwheelers founder Satoshi Suzuki shared images from a visit to New Balance's Boston HQ, showing chairman Jim Davis in an unreleased grey pair, now known to be the 990v7.
New Balance then made it official in September with a small billboard on the corner of Hester Street and Lafayette Street in New York. It showed little more than a tiny silhouette of the shoe on a blank white wall, but that was enough to confirm the successor to the 990v6 was on its way.

Then, ahead of her Saturday Night Live appearance, New Balance ambassador Rosalía was spotted out and about in a grey suede pair with a pre-aged finish on the "N" logo and midsole.

The New Balance 990v7 is part of the Made in USA line and is slated for Holiday 2026, with a debut expected in November. Pricing and a style code are yet to be confirmed.
