First Things First: Why Do We Love the 95 So Much?

Designed by Sergio Lozano and released in 1995, the Air Max 95 was famously inspired by the human body. The midsole is the spine, the layered side panels are the muscles and the lace loops are the ribs. It was also the first Air Max to show off visible Air in the forefoot as well as the heel.

Over here, though, it's so much more than a running shoe. The 95 took over British streets in the late '90s and has never really left. In Liverpool, it's still known as "the 110" after its original £110 price tag, which is exactly why JD Sports celebrates 110 Day every year. Few trainers have been worn quite as hard in the UK, and even fewer still look this good 30 years on.

And What Makes the Big Bubble Different?

It's all in the name. The Big Bubble edition gives you a bigger, bolder visible Air unit than a standard 95, while the rest of the design, in Nike's words, "stays true to the original". The upper is stacked with rippling layers of synthetic leather and suede, sitting on a foam midsole and a rubber outsole.

So, How Does Nike By You Work?

Nike By You is Nike's in-house customisation service. You start with a base shoe, make it your own in the online builder, and Nike makes that pair just for you. Getting started is pretty simple:

1. Head to the men's or women's Air Max 95 Big Bubble By You page.

2. Hit "Customise" to open the builder, or start from one of Nike's inspiration designs and tweak it.

3. Pick your size (men's runs from UK 5.5 to 14) and add your design to your bag.

4. Sign in and check out. It's a Member product, so you'll need a (free) Nike Membership to buy.

What Can You Actually Customise?

Here's where the fun starts. According to Nike, you can play with:

• The base: mix and match synthetic leather or suede on each ripple of the upper for a properly layered look.

• The colours: choose from a range of shades across the upper, from neutral tones to bright pops.

• The Air units: go opaque or transparent.

• The personal touch: add up to three embroidered characters to the tongue top label. Think initials, a nickname or your lucky number.

Our tip? Start with the classic gradient and play around from there. Fading the ripples from dark to light is a nice nod to the OG 'Neon', but nobody's stopping you from going full rainbow. Or keep it simple with an all-white or all-black pair.
