Nike Tech SF3 jacket in the rain

For years, Nike Tech meant one thing: that tapered fleece tracksuit you've seen on every high street, school run and airport queue going.

Now Nike wants the name to mean a lot more. The brand has rebuilt Nike Tech from the fabric up and turned it into a proper year-round range, with different platforms for rain, cold, warmer days and everything in between. The headline act? A waterproof jacket called SF3. And it all lands on 5 November.

So, What's the Big Idea?

Nike calls it a fabric-first approach. Instead of starting with a silhouette and picking a material afterwards, the designers began with the conditions you actually deal with, from a soggy commute to a long day of travelling, and built each piece to solve one specific problem.

The result is less of a single product and more of a system: protection where you need it, breathability and flexibility where you move, and pieces that are easy to layer and wear all day long.

And who's it for? Everyone, according to Nike. Its official line is "If you have a body, you are an athlete." Fair enough.

Meet SF3, the Rain Jacket That Gets Softer

SF3 is the big one. Nike calls it the next generation of material innovation for the franchise and its most advanced take on weather protection yet. On paper, that means recycled materials, fully sealed seams and advanced manufacturing techniques, all working together to keep water out without cutting off airflow. So no boil-in-the-bag feeling.

Our favourite detail? According to Nike, the fabric softens over time, so the jacket becomes more personal the longer you wear it. A rain jacket with a break-in period, basically.

Greg Nolley, Senior Manager of Men's Sportswear Apparel at Nike, says the goal with SF3 "was almost a redefinition of outerwear", describing it as "an incredibly lightweight protective layer".

Greg Nolley quote on the new Nike Tech collection

Boreas Is Here for the Cold Snaps

Next up is Boreas, a brand-new full-zip that pairs high-pile fleece with water-repellent panels. In other words: cosy and warm where it counts, with a bit of shielding for when the weather can't make its mind up. Which, let's be honest, is most of a British winter.

It's cut oversized so it moves with your body, and the darted zip pockets keep your phone, keys and cards secure while you're out and about. One of the product shots shows it in a dark brown with textured panels on the sleeves.

Don't Panic, Tech Fleece Isn't Going Anywhere

The piece that started it all is still very much part of the line-up. Tech Fleece first landed back in 2013 and, as Nike puts it, established Nike Tech as an icon.

This version uses premium fleece that's smooth on both sides, giving you warmth without the weight, plus a relaxed shape that makes layering easy. There's a nice new touch too: reflective Bemis tape along the chest and seams, so you're a bit easier to spot on those dark winter evenings. The product shot shows a teal full-zip hoodie with dark contrast panels, a chest Swoosh and a zipped arm pocket.

What About When It Warms Up?

Nike Tech isn't just a winter thing any more. Three more platforms complete the range:

  • Helios – lightweight and breathable, with micro-ventilation.

  • Shori – cooling comfort and stretch, with the clean, modern look Nike Tech is known for.

  • Tech Woven – widens the range even further. If you remember the Tech Woven suit we covered back in 2024, you'll know the vibe.

One Collection, Head to Toe

The real point of all this is that the pieces are designed to work together. Nolley describes the collection as going "way beyond fleece", calling it "both a head-to-toe proposition and a true inside-out layering system, fuelled by Nike innovation in service of the athlete".

Translation: you can build a full outfit from base layer to outer shell, and dress it up or down depending on whether you're commuting, travelling or just popping out. Season after season.

Oh, and Lil Yachty Has Had a Go Too

Can't wait until November? There's already a fresh Nike Tech drop doing the rounds. Lil Yachty has teamed up with Nike for his first-ever apparel collab, and he's given Tech Fleece the oversized treatment. As Nike puts it: "Everything's oversized, even an icon."

The capsule is made up of two black pieces:

  • Nike Tech x Lil Yachty Fleece Full-Zip Jacket – an oversized fit with double-layer, heavyweight construction, the signature Nike Tech chevron lines, a structured hood, adjustable bungee cords, thumbholes and custom label graphics. £184.99.

  • Nike Tech x Lil Yachty Fleece Shorts – oversized and cut to fall below the knee, with the same heavyweight build and chevron lines, plus cargo pockets, adjustable snaps and bungee cords. £134.99.

Quick sizing tip: Nike recommends going a full size down if you want that oversized but relaxed fit. Both pieces are on Nike SNKRS, although the jacket was already showing as sold out in the UK at the time of writing. The shorts were still available.
