The Revival of the Nike LD-1000 is Here!

It’s pretty evident the Swoosh aren’t holding back on bringing back retro silhouettes anytime soon. From the ACG Izy Moccasin, to the Sunder, to the Air Foamposite One (and we really could go on), the Oregon-based giant is full steam ahead in the nostalgic footwear department, and we’re definitely not complaining! Recently joining the revival hall-of-fame in a wavy campaign with Stüssy (pardon the pun), it’s now official – the Nike LD-1000 will be joining the line-up for 2024. 

Introduced on the scene back in 1977, the LD-1000 acts as one of the sportswear giant’s most nostalgic offerings to date. Crafted with the intention of changing the game of runner tech, the model was the first of its kind to don a grippy Waffle sole. Marketed to the public as ‘the first shoe made for your knees’, the sneaker’s ending was not so optimistic. Unfortunately, the flared heel that was so progressive at the time was likely to cause the athletes physical injury. Although the LD-1000 was pulled from shelves entirely, this signified a whole new era of Nike technology. 

Repping an attractive flair that makes perfect sense within the contemporary fashion climate, let’s take a look at the ‘Black/Sesame’ colourway!

A Closer Look at the Nike LD-1000 ‘Black/Sesame’ (HM0950-001)…

Keeping things nice and simple for that optimal retro steez, this updated take opts for an understated minimalism that speaks for itself. Expressing the same knit construction as its OG form, subtle hits of suede invite a gentle textural contrast. Perfectly capturing the ultra lightweight essence of the silhouette through the airy exterior, illuminating pops of white affirm the legacy. 

And of course, we can’t mention legacy without talking about the Waffle sole, which remains prominent in all of its glory. Adopting an off-white-resembling hue of ‘Sesame’, the retro essence prevails! Lastly, Athletics West branding within the insole reaffirms the nostalgia, paying homage to Nike’s ‘70s running programme. Vintage vibes on 10.
