Gum soles, earthy suede and a proper hiking boot. SPZL season is here again.
Gary Aspden's adidas Spezial line is back for Fall/Winter 2026, and it's one of the most outdoorsy SPZL drops in a while. Six pairs of trainers across five models land on Friday 6 November 2026, joined by a 12-piece apparel range that leans heavily into greens, blues and browns.
The headline act? A brand-new hybrid hiker called the Wetherlam SPZL, named after a fell in the Lake District.
A Closer Look at the adidas SPZL Fall/Winter 2026 Collection…
Wetherlam SPZL: Built for Muddy Weekends
If you've followed SPZL for a while, you'll know Aspden has a soft spot for the hills. The Wetherlam picks up where the Helvellyn SPZL left off, and is billed as an updated version of that shoe.
It comes in Sand Green with Utility Black and Mesa accents (KK0721). The upper mixes suede and textile, while chunky metal eyelets and a lugged rubber outsole give it genuine trail-ready looks.
The clever bit is hidden in plain sight. Look closely at the side panel and you'll spot small 'aditex' lettering. That's adidas' own waterproof, breathable tech, which basically makes it the Three Stripes' answer to GORE-TEX. Handy, given what a British November usually throws at you.
Underneath, the midsole stacks brown and mustard-yellow layers before it meets that grippy outsole. It's the priciest pair in the drop at £160.

Halewood SPZL: The Loud One
Not every pair is playing it safe. The Halewood SPZL (KK0722) goes all in on Rustic Orange, with Spezial branding on the tongue, the side and the heel.
A Gum M2 outsole tones things down just enough. Expect to pay £110.
Hawaii SPZL: Two Takes on a Terrace Favourite
The Hawaii SPZL is the most affordable shoe in the line-up at £100, and it comes in two tonal suede colourways, both on gum soles.
The Collegiate Green pair (KK0726) lets its off-white three stripes and heel tab do the talking. The Shadow Brown version (KK0725) keeps it darker and finishes things off with a gold Trefoil label on the tongue.
Albrecht II SPZL: Smart Enough for the Office
The Albrecht II SPZL (KK0724) is the grown-up of the bunch. It's done in Dusky Bronze leather with a moccasin-style toe and Dark Brown details.
A bit of history: the original Albrecht SPZL reworked the little-known Sevilla and put it on the sole of the Gazelle OG. This one also comes with two spare sets of laces in the box. It costs £120.
Boston II Outdoor SPZL: The Odd One Out
Among all the earthy tones, the Boston II Outdoor SPZL (KK0723) stands out in Utility Black. Textile meets smooth leather overlays, with Wonder White accents and a treaded rubber outsole.
It's a sequel with real heritage. The original Boston SPZL was part of the very first 2014 Spezial collection, curated by Gary Aspden and Mike Chetcuti, and borrowed its sole unit from the ZX710. Like the Albrecht, it's yours for £120.
What About the Clothing?

The apparel side takes its cues from '70s and '80s designs, and riders from the adidas skate team front the campaign. You'll find 12 pieces in total, and just like the shoes, many of them carry place names.
Outerwear does the heavy lifting. The green Springvale SPZL Parka is the statement piece, joined by the half-zip Eccleshill SPZL Smock in green or brown, the blue Baxenden SPZL Hood and the green Cardington SPZL Gilet.

For layering, there's the blue Turncroft SPZL Track Top, the Hartshill SPZL Knit, the Bellshill SPZL half-zip fleece and the Slaidburn SPZL Polo. The green Loughrigg Trouser, named after another Lake District fell, plus a couple of tees complete the range.

UK pricing for the clothing hasn't been confirmed yet. Over in Europe, it runs from €60 for a tee up to €400 for the parka.
Sizing tip: the parka and the Loughrigg Trouser are cut loose, so consider going a size down. The Turncroft, Slaidburn, Hartshill and Bellshill pieces fit true to size, while the Eccleshill Smock and the Baxenden Hood have a roomier fit. There's no specific sizing advice for the trainers yet.
A Quick SPZL Refresher
New to SPZL? It started in 2014 as a passion project for Gary Aspden, a Darwen lad who spent years at adidas, including a stint as Global Head of Entertainment Marketing. He was originally handed a two-season, 12-month contract to see how it went. Twelve years later, it's still going strong.
Aspden prefers to call himself a curator rather than a designer. He digs into the adidas archive (and his own enormous collection) and brings forgotten silhouettes back to life. His mantra sums it up nicely: "we glance at the past without staring at it".
The line's roots are in British terrace and casual culture, and it looks to Europe rather than the US for inspiration. That's why so many products carry Northern English place names, with Slaidburn, Baxenden and Loughrigg all making an appearance this season.
Along the way, SPZL has teamed up with C.P. Company and Liam Gallagher, and Aspden has staged exhibitions of rare adidas trainers, from Blackburn in 2019 to the DECADE show in Darwen that marked ten years of Spezial in May 2024.
