Support and ankle stability are provided by the shoe's mid-top cut. Among its distinctive features are a neoprene sleeve around the ankle collar and a translucent rubber sole with visible Air cushioning.

When designing the Jordan 6, Hatfield was inspired by Michael Jordan's love of cars. Automobiles will continue to be a major influence on future Air Jordan shoes.

The VI has lace locks in addition to a rubber tongue with finger holes. In the heel of the Air Jordan 6, Nike uses Air technology to absorb impact, ensuring comfort and support during play.
