PUMA x BAPE Capsule Collection – Release Info

The PUMA X BAPE CAPSULE COLLECTION sees the iconic ape-themed camouflage applied to a selection of classic apparel and footwear silhouettes.

Founded in 1993, BAPE has elevated lifestyle streetwear to another level and has gone on to set trends and influence musicians and artists around the world. With this debut collaboration with PUMA, the two brands have created a collection that has been designed to make a strong statement on streetwear’s heart and soul: sport. The unique design aesthetics that BAPE are famous for have been applied to the sport brand’s most classic and well-known styles, with some pretty bold results.

The collection is centred around a selection of footwear – the R698, the DISC BLAZE and the BLAZE OF GLORY. First up is the R698, which is given a distinctive update with black BAPE camo covering the upper, whilst a white midsole adds some contrast down below. There are two versions of the Disc Blaze, one of which features the same camo as the R698, whilst the other switches it up with the green version of the pattern. Rounding things off is the Blaze Of Glory, which takes on the most subtle look of the four, by sporting an all-white upper and restricting the camo to the plastic overlays.

To accompany the footwear, there is a large range of apparel, which kicks off with the AW15 replica football jerseys, with the shirts sporting an all-over camo print for a bold look, whilst reflective piping on the sleeves adds a bit of a streetwear edge. The shirts can be coupled with the matching shorts to make you one of the best-looking players on the pitch or pavement. The collection continues with pieces taken from the archives: the Long Coat, which is inspired by the coats worn by coaches on the training field and in the dugout on match days, whilst the Training Jacket is updated with an original PUMA X BAPE tape design on the sleeves. You can’t have a capsule collection with BAPE without including a Shark Hoodie: as you would expect this also sports camo, as well as dual-branding.

These are just some of the highlights from a wider range that extends into accessories as well, including bags and football socks. Despite the fact that camo is supposed to be stealthy, there’s no denying this is a collection that stands out from the crowd, much like the football player and model of the lookbook, Mario Balotelli.
