PONY X OVERKILL LADY LIBERTY RUNNER

The PONY X OVERKILL LADY LIBERTY RUNNER has got a fascinating back story which goes back a few years to 2012.

Three years ago, a year after the beginning of their cooperation with PONY, OVERKILL re-discovered this missing silhouette on a ‘Whats on my feet today’ (WOMFT) post and showed it to the shoe manufacturer from New York. The discovery of this long-lost silhouette and the accompanied WOMFT posting created a lot excitement at PONY and the New Yorkers were determined to help track down the origins of the runner and bring it back to life, as they and the team from Berlin knew that this is the kind of style that is very popular in Europe.

In 2013 an appeal was launched on Instagram to assist in unraveling the mystery surrounding the missing RUNNER, with an open call for help to obtain more information and preferably its whereabouts. Unfortunately nothing came from the appeal on social media and even after a thorough search through the brand’s archives, there was still very little information to be found.

Nine months of searching later and, as fate would have it, it was the team at OVERKILL that finally brought an end to the search and it is because of this they’ve been rewarded with the first collaboration on the re-discovered model.

As we mentioned earlier, the brand is based in New York, which is where the name PONY (Product of New York) comes from. With this in mind the shoe has been given a theme that ties in with the city, taking inspiration from one of its most iconic landmarks – the LADY LIBERTY or Statue of Liberty. The grey tones that adorn the upper nod towards the concrete plinth that the statue stands on, whilst the pop of mint plays homage to the oxidised copper that the statue is made of. The shoe is full of nice little touches, including dual-branded tongue labels, embroidered designs on the heel, branded lace locks and custom-printed insoles. Even the box has had a re-design to tie in with the theme, which finishes off the concept perfectly.

The PONY X OVERKILL LADY LIBERTY RUNNER will release in-store at Overkill first on SATURDAY 21 MARCH, with remaining pairs going online.
