oki-ni x Y-3 ‘Against the Elements’ Photo Shoot

The online luxury menswear retailer OKI-NI has shared with The Drop Date its photography of the Y-3 AW16 collection, which takes a more imaginative approach from the typical lifestyle pictures we are all used to seeing.

Titled ‘Y-3: AGAINST THE ELEMENTS’, oki-ni decided to eschew the usual urban settings for its photographs, instead opting for an experimental and mysterious landscape that heavily features smoke and water. Shot against a black background, the Y-3 silhouettes are immersed in – and juxtaposed against – the aforementioned elements, which are illuminated with coloured lighting. The resulting effect is an almost magical and mystical backdrop that highlights the shoes’ best qualities without drowning them in effects.

The silhouettes featured in the shoot are: A water splashed black FUTURE LOW, which is enveloped in smoke that has purple light piercing through; the Y-3 PUREBOOST ZG, which have a shimmering, smoky backdrop that reflects light from above; the white STAN ZIP Sneakers sitting on a rock shrouded in smoke; the orange KYUJO LOW sneakers and the grey QASA HIGH sneakers, both of which appear to be floating on a bed of smoke; the black KYUJO LOW sneakers, which look as if they are walking on water, leaving a trail of smoke behind; the black QASA HIGH sneakers atop a purple liquid smoke platform; and finally the black and blue KOHNA sneakers that kind of look like they’ve just emerged from a bubbling cauldron.

It’s refreshing to see such an imaginative and novel take on sneaker presentation, and we hope other retailers are inspired to follow suit!
