Powerful, Provocative, Practical: the Nike WMNS Air Force 1 Shadow, AF1 Shell and AF1 Reflective

The NIKE AF1 SHADOW leads the way in this new series of winter-ready footwear for women, based on the classic and iconic Air Force 1.

It’s hard to add anything meaningful to a shoe with as much heritage as the AF1 but Nike HQ has had an extremely good go. The Air Force 1 Shadow is an updated silhouette that adds a distinct deconstructed aesthetic to the classic from 1982. There’s some double swoosh action as well as an additional heel panel and lifted lace stay that adds a little bit more to this unbeatable shoe. Georgina James, Senior Creative Director, Nike WMNS Footwear explains the concept further, “Air Force 1 Shadow is a great example of how we channel desire and create new expressions through silhouette, shape and details, something unique but still familiar each season.“. The design ethos is part inspired by women who are setting examples in their communities as forces of change. As a parallel, the Shadow pushes the boundaries, displaying an elegant overemphasis. This is demonstrated with the raised midsole and core-outed outsole, making the shoe lighter and more comfortable. Presented in a variety of solid colourways, the Shadow is a worthy addition to the Air Force lineage.

To enhance the offerings even further, two additional models are joining the proceedings: the AF1 Shell and the AF1 Reflective. The Shell is inspired by hard shell apparel, such as water-resistant hooded jacket, and incorporates details that allow for an adjustable shape. A DWR spray helps repel damp and cold to help maintain a versatile look in winter weather. The AF1 Reflective utilises pebbled leather with the always-popular application of 3M material to provide reliable visibility in low winter light. As a complete package, this is an unbeatable combination that should take the wearer from the start of autumn right through until the last glimpses of frost the following spring.
