The Air Jordan 11 Space Jam ‘Monstar Mash’ Drops This Weekend

Unless you’ve been living under a rock or in sneakerhead purgatory, you can’t fail to have noticed that the Nike AIR JORDAN 11 SPACE JAM ‘MONSTAR MASH’ drops on SATURDAY.

Likely the most anticipated Air Jordan release of the year, the AJXI is part of of Jordan Brand’s huge Space Jam drop in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the animated movie. And the movie is, of course, where Michael Jordan first wore the familiar Concord/Black/White colourway version of the silhouette, which sneakerheads had to wait a further four years to get their hands on. The one big difference between this drop and the kicks worn in the movie is the inclusion of the number ’45’, which is embroidered on the heel tab; ’45’ was the number Jordan wore in the 1995 NBA playoffs, which is when he first donned Jordan’s brand new AJXI silhouette with its distinctive patent leather mudguard.

This postseason marked his return to the game having left basketball in ’93; befitting his status as a legend, his team, the Chicago Bulls, ‘retired’ the number ’23’ that MJ had previously worn. Other features include the Concord Jumpman logo, Nike Air insoles, a white midsole and a translucent outsole that has a herringbone pattern that aids traction and durability, along with the Jumpman/Jordan on the tongue tab. The celebratory 2016 edition will come packaged in a special Looney Tunes-themed box complete with illustrations of Bugs Bunny and The Monsters.
