Nike Air Footscape Motion Sakura – Release Info

The NIKE AIR FOOTSCAPE MOTION SAKURA brings back one of our favourite Footscape variants, this time with a special homage to the cherry blossom trees in Japan.

The original Footscape remains a pinnacle moment in Nike’s archive. When the OG model (designed by Tory Orzeck) first released way back in 1995, it had many of us scratching our heads. The side-lacing system was unique and original, adding an aerodynamic and ergonomic shape to the shoe that was more akin to orthopedic footwear. The considered approach to both the design and construction of the Footscape kept components and layers to a minimal level, offering a slipper-like fit. However, despite this simplistic approach, the shoe looked futuristic, with a clean top panel and large Swoosh on the medial side. We were hooked.

The Footscape really hit hard in Japan, where it became a popular fixture on ther streets and in the cutting-edge trend magazines. There have been many revamps and variants of the original design, but the addition of a Motion sole unit remains one of the most successful yet. Perhaps as a nod of recognition to the strength of support from Asia, this new edition pays respect to Tokyo’s cherry blossom season, with a graphic print (reminiscent of the Sakura Ueno AF1s) sat on top of a contasting dark grey base and special reflective piping. These really hit the spot for us.
