To give the NEW BALANCE 247 LUXE an appropriate introduction to the world, New Balance held a series of parties in some of the world’s major cities on January 7, 2017. Invited to celebrate the launch of the new silhouette were many of the most respected trainer connoisseurs, as well as creative movers and shakers, from each city. Naturally that meant The Drop Date was at the London event, swigging all the free booze and taking part in very sophisticated conversation.
Conveniently, it was held right in The Drop Date’s manor (we didn’t have far to stumble home – result!), at the Protein event space in Shoreditch. Attendees were filled to the gills with food prepared by local chef Magnus Reid, speeches were given, then the shoe was unveiled. Then the party started with the Boiler Room’s Thris Tian warming things up, followed by figures on the local grime scene, Ghetts and Capo Lee, alongside DJ and producer Sir Spyro. Closing out the night was the man and the legend, Gilles Peterson.
As you eagle-eyed readers of The Drop Date will recall, the NEW BALANCE 247 LUXE is a new premium lifestyle silhouette from the brand, which ups the ante in terms of materials and craftsmanship. The thinking behind the 247 was to design a shoe that had the modern urban lifestyle in mind, specifically the 24/7 culture in which we now all live. We managed to get a few snaps of the London launch event, courtesy of Thomas Lindie from New Balance Gallery, before things got too messy – check them out below.
