Is A New Balance x WTAPS 990v6 On The Cards?

After 3 years of anticipation for any sort of advancement from the partnership, could 2023 see a New Balance x WTAPS 990v6 collaboration? 

The partnership between Japanese-based WTAPS and Boston powerhouse New Balance dates back to 2020. The New Balance x WTAPS 992 took the industry by storm, immediately becoming one of the most sought-after collabs of the year. It had sneakerheads and streetwear junkies fiending for the immaculately crafted structure and utilitarian aesthetic – and can you blame ’em?

Then came the New Balance x WTAPS 990v2, boasting a polished grey exterior representative of NB’s conventional palette. Piggy-backing off of the hype that the 992 so effortlessly cultivated, the 990v2 sold out pretty much instantaneously (shock!). It’s safe to say that these collabs are harder to get your hands on than a nice cut of meat from the Butchers on a Sunday. As we look towards the future, NB and WTAPS fans are eager to see what else the duo have cooking.

Entering the market late last year, the New Balance 990v6 has gone down a treat with connoisseurs of good footwear. Collaborating with Queens’ multi-hyphenate Action Bronson, colourways ‘Lapis Lazuli’ and ‘Baklava’ brought colour to the historically grey-scale 990 series. Other than these vibrant iterations, we’re yet to see another partner for the 990v6. This leads us on to the matter at hand. Teased via @dane3fune on Insta, we saw a pixelated glance at what ‘potentially’ was the New Balance x WTAPS 990v6. Flaunting a streamlined palette of monochromatic grey hues, we now have a confirmed global release date of FRIDAY 1ST SEPTEMBER 2023.
