We showed you the first reveal of the ADIDAS FUTURECRAFT 4D last week – but now we’ve seen on-foot shots (courtesy of RUNNERWALLY in Berlin) that give us a much better idea of just how good the finished shoe actually looks.
The Futurecraft 4D features the world’s first midsole crafted with light and oxygen using Digital Light Synthesis, a technology developed by Carbon. This revolutionary process means that many stages of the footwear development process, such as prototyping molds, can be removed or bypassed. The technology is one thing but the appeal is somewhat diminished if the design fails to prove equally interesting. However, those fears can be put to rest, as the aesthetics do the technology justice. Many 3D printed objects lack a certain soul or essence, with a rigid, stiff appearance that simply illustrate the science that lurks underneath the surface, but the Futurecraft 4D avoids this. The black knitted uppers keep the styling smart and simple to direct your attention to the mesh-like sole unit, which is rendered in a contrasting white/green finish. Even if you disregard the impressive technology, the Futurecraft is a fantastic piece of footwear design.
The ADIDAS FUTURECRAFT 4D drops in a limited run of 300 pairs this April, exclusively to friends and family of the Three Stripes. A more consumer-friendly 5,000-pair release will follow afterwards during Fall/Winter 2017. Check out the shoe below and then watch the latest official video from adidas about the Futurecraft 4D process underneath.
