It is meant to be a reference to the Nike Air Max 90's release year in 1990, which is represented by the transparent Air Unit.

The insoles of the Nike Air Max 90 'Pressure' features a blueprint motif that is believed to be a copy of Frank Rudy's blueprints. This is not the first sneaker that is a homage to Frank Rudy; for instance, the Nike Air Max 97 'M. Frank Rudy' was also released.
