adidas AM4

Introducing the adidas AM4

The adidas AM4 (adidas Made for) series marks a bold step in sneaker innovation, combining advanced manufacturing with hyper-local customisation. Introduced in 2017, the AM4 project was the first global initiative from adidas’s Speedfactory in Ansbach, Germany, using robotics, 3D printing, and digital knitting to produce footwear. This allowed adidas to craft city-specific models (such as AM4LDN for London, AM4NYC for New York, and AM4TKY for Tokyo) tailored to the unique running conditions and preferences of local athletes.
Each AM4 features a full-length Boost midsole for responsive cushioning, a Primeknit upper for a lightweight, sock-like fit, and a floating Torsion bar for enhanced stability and flexibility. Assembled with minimal components and no glue, the shoes streamline production while reducing environmental impact. The design process was data-driven, incorporating insights from local runners to ensure peak performance and comfort.
