Introducing the adidas 4DFWD

adidas’ 4DFWD marks a significant step forward in the development of the brand’s innovative 4D lattice technology. Building on the foundations of the 2017 Futurecraft 4D project, the 4DFWD advances the concept of a digitally printed midsole by employing Carbon’s Digital Light Synthesis process to create a precisely engineered lattice. This structure is designed to transform downward pressure into forward motion.

To achieve this, designers analysed millions of lattice variations derived from years of athlete performance data, ultimately refining a 'bowtie' cell pattern that boosts propulsion while minimising braking impact. The result is a ride that feels fluid, efficient, and distinctly different from conventional foam cushioning.

Completing the design, the upper combines lightweight knit and engineered mesh for a secure, adaptive fit, while a Continental rubber outsole provides reliable traction across diverse surfaces.
