The NIKELAB ACG.07.KMTR is a brand-new addition to the ACG chronicles, combining a modern hiking style with a sleek, refined shape that looks well-suited to the street.
The ACG range will always have its fans. The earliest elements of All Conditions Gear were formed back in the early 1980s, when shoes such as the Lava Dome, Magma and Approach were released, but it wasn’t until 1989 that the ACG concept was formally announced. Over the years, there have been a huge range of styles developed for a wide range of purposes and activities. But beyond its own entity, ACG has influenced other areas of Nike’s output: you’ll find ACG colourways and ideas being utilised across many other models, proving that this wasn’t any old diffusion range. Over time, ACG seemed to fall by the wayside, until it was relaunched in late 2014 with expert guidance from Acronym’s legendary founder, Errolson Hugh. We’ve seen several models slowly make their way out of the design studio, but the ACG.07.KMTR is one of the most interesting to date.
The ACG.07.KMTR, the first iteration of the new NIKE KOMYUTER silhouette, has a refined appearance overall, despite hosting several bold and aggressive elements. An initial idea to create a design that featured increased access and ease led the designers to place a bag around a foot and scrunch it to form the shape of a shoe. This inspired a one-piece upper that’s able to morph from a wide-open entry to a supportive closed state.
The ripstop panels across the upper section are clean and uncomplicated, with a sturdy belt and clasp over the top to secure the fit and hold your foot in place. The back of the shoe features an integrated draw cord which stabilises via a forefoot strap equipped with a Fidlock magnetic buckle. Detailing is kept simple and clean with reflective strips, whilst the sole unit looks practical and robust. The initial two colourways should keep everyone happy, with a functional all-black dip (well, all-black aside from the contrasting branding) and a slightly more sophisticated navy option on offer: the subsequent drop takes place during the following week and features Golden Beige and Cool Grey editions. We really like this design and expect it to be popular with techwear fans and those who are looking for something a little more progressive than the usual summer shoe selection.
The NIKELAB ACG.07.KMTR releases on THURSDAY 18 MAY alongside the accompanying SU17 ACG apparel collection. The following week – that’s THURSDAY 25 MAY – will see the Golden Beige and Cool Grey colourways drop. In the meantime, you can check out the latest NIKELAB releases by clicking the banner below.
