British weather and a fresh pair of Air Max 95s have never been the best of friends. Nike seems to have noticed, because the Air Max 95 is getting a GORE-TEX makeover in time for the colder months, dropping in two colourways built to take on the wet.

The weatherproofing isn't the only update, either. Both pairs also sit on the updated Big Bubble tooling, so the visible Air unit is bigger and bolder than on a standard 95.

A Closer Look at the Nike Air Max 95 GORE-TEX

Sergio Lozano's 1995 original was famously modelled on the human body, with the midsole as a spine, the layered panels as muscles and the lace loops as ribs. That anatomy is all still here. What's changed is how the upper is split: the top half and the bottom half now do two different jobs.

Up top sits a ripstop upper, while the lower half, where the gradient panels would usually fade, is where the GORE-TEX goes. That's the part of the shoe that meets puddles first, so it makes sense. GORE-TEX branding on the forefoot, just behind the toe, is the giveaway.

Light Bone/Campfire Orange

The first pair, officially "Light Bone/Black/Metallic Pewter/Campfire Orange" (IO1877-001), is the brighter of the two. A pale Light Bone ripstop upper sits over a darker GORE-TEX lower, and Campfire Orange picks out the lace loops, the heel Swoosh and sections of the outsole. It's a warm, outdoorsy take that wouldn't look out of place on a hiking trail.

If you'd rather keep things low-key, the "Black/Diffused Blue" pair (IO1877-002) goes almost entirely blacked-out. Hits of Diffused Blue break up the darker build without shouting about it, making this one the easier everyday option for grey winter mornings.
