Marvel Assembles Dr. Doom, Shuri and Ant-Man on the adidas Superstar

Avengers: Doomsday hits cinemas this December, and adidas isn't sitting this one out. A Marvel x adidas Superstar collection is on the way, kicking off with three pairs built around Dr. Doom, Shuri and Ant-Man.

Don't go expecting film stills, though. These pairs take their cues from the comic book versions of each character, right down to the boxes, which show the heroes drawn in classic comic style. adidas hasn't said a word about the project officially yet, so there's still plenty to come.

A Closer Look at the Marvel x adidas Superstar Collection...

All three pairs start from the same place: the Superstar, the shell-toe favourite that first hit basketball courts back in 1969. Each one gets a leather upper in its character's colours, with studs and charms scattered across the 3-Stripes, heel counter and eyestays, plus a metallic character badge on the tongue.

The packaging is half the fun. Every pair comes presented like an action figure in its box, so collectors might want to think twice before binning it.

Dr. Doom

Victor von Doom, ruler of Latveria and the Fantastic Four's arch-enemy since 1962, gets the moodiest pair of the lot. A black leather upper is paired with speckled grey 3-Stripes lined with silver studs, and more studs run along the heel tab. Green laces and a green collar lining nod to his cloak, while a silver charm hangs off the laces like a piece of his armour. Fitting for a collection timed around Doomsday: on the big screen, the villain is played by Robert Downey Jr.

Shuri

Shuri is the younger sister of King T'Challa, the Black Panther, and one of the sharpest minds in Wakanda. In the comics she takes on the Black Panther mantle herself, which is why the panther emblem sits on her box. Her pair keeps a textured black upper as the base, then adds gold studs along the 3-Stripes, gold diamond-shaped charms on the heel and a gold badge on the tongue. Purple laces, purple lettering on the side and a purple stripe around the outsole finish it off.

Ant-Man

Ant-Man first appeared in 1962 as scientist Hank Pym, whose own invention lets him shrink to the size of an ant. On screen, Paul Rudd plays Scott Lang, who takes over Pym's suit and becomes Ant-Man. His pair is the loudest of the three: a glossy red upper with a honeycomb-style texture, shiny red 3-Stripes trimmed in silver and 'ANT-MAN' printed on the side. Black on the collar, heel and toe keeps it grounded, and red laces tie it together. The box keeps it old school, showing him in the classic red suit.

How about the Drop Date?

There's no confirmed UK release date just yet. The collection is expected to land in late December, around the film's release, and more characters and styles are said to follow. Prices and style codes are still under wraps too.
