From Court Minimalism to Trail Grit: Song for the Mute and adidas Rewrite the Rules for SS27

Paris Fashion Week 2026 has once again proven to be the ultimate breeding ground for unexpected footwear chemistry. Did you guys follow our personal journey through Paris via Instagram?

Unveiled during their debut runway show in Paris, Australian avant-garde design house Song for the Mute has officially extended its partnership with adidas Originals well into 2027. For their Spring/Summer 2027 capsule, the duo has decided to explore two completely polar corners of the Three Stripes archive. With their upcoming collection, they are radically transforming a refined tennis silhouette alongside a rugged all-terrain model.

Here is what you need to know…

A closer Look at the Song for the Mute x adidas SS27 collection…

Song for the Mute and adidas have been working together since 2022. In the past, the brand has built its sneaker reputation by elevating lesser-known or niche models from the adidas archives, such as the Country OG or the Taekwondo. This season, however, the collab is taking a massive creative leap by tackling one of the most recognizable sneakers on the planet: the Stan Smith.

As adidas shifts its lifestyle focus to breathe new energy into the Stan Smith following the massive wave of the Superstar, the Song for the Mute reinterpretation completely subverts the shoe’s traditionally clean, uniform leather aesthetic. Here, we get a slimmer, intentionally distressed profile that features an earthy, raw mix of canvas, leather, and premium suede panels, capped off with exaggerated suede heel extensions.

Three colourways have emerged from the Paris showcase: a heritage-nodding white and green, a softer cream and pink composition, and a bold, asymmetric navy-and-grey iteration boasting high-contrast panelling.

In a sharp stylistic pivot, Song for the Mute and adidas furthermore go completely off-road and resurrect a forgotten outdoor silhouette: the adidas TRAXION 1000 Hiker. Intended to inject structural weight and balance out the narrow lines of the tennis court shoes, this rugged model leans heavily into industrial, functional tech.

Built more like an utility boot, it features a quick-lacing system, highly breathable mesh uppers, and deeply grooved, high-traction outsoles. This hike has been previewed in two stark variants: a yellow and black setup and a cream and black combination.

We think: what makes this capsule work is Song for the Mute’s signature, highly tactical design ethos. Through a shared visual language of cohesive, muted colour blocking, frayed edges, and intensely layered textures, the collection kind of harmonizes a delicate court staple with a heavy-duty trail vibe.

Under the unique lens of Song for the Mute, these silhouettes feel natural but still special.
