Sneaker culture and balletcore continue their ongoing love affair, and ASICS is taking the trend a step further by completely reimagining one of its classic performance models. The brand transforms their classic GEL-DS Trainer into a ballet shoe hybrid in 2026. We got a first look at three colourways for now.
Here is what you need to know:

One thing is for sure: By taking the upper off the archive GEL-DS Trainer, the Japanese sportswear label has crafted a hybrid silhouette that blurs the boundaries between technical running gear and delicate dance footwear.
The overall silhouette swaps out traditional laces and dense structural overlays in favour of a sleek, foot-hugging canvas and synthetic upper. The shoe is held secure by elasticated criss-cross straps reminiscent of classic ballet slippers. Despite the minimalist, feminine construction up top, the design still retains its performance roots below.
Sitting atop the original GEL-DS Trainer sole unit and complete with exposed GEL cushioning and a carved-out outsole, the design also balances delicate aesthetics with functional everyday support. The typical comfort that we love from ASICS is secured.

We think: By merging high-performance running technology with soft, dance-inspired design codes, ASICS offers a fresh entry into the technical-meets-lifestyle space.
The ASICS GEL-DS Trainer Ballet hybrid is set to roll out via ASICS and at select global retailers in Fall 2026. Just keep an eye on our release calendar to stay ahead of all release information.
