Nike Air Is Back: The Air Jordan 6 'White Infrared' Returns to Its 1991 Roots

Thirty-five years on from Michael Jordan's first championship season, the Air Jordan 6 'White Infrared' is heading back to shelves. And this time, it's the version the purists have been waiting for.

Under the style code CT8529-105, the 2026 pair brings Nike Air back to the heel for the first time since the 1991 original, paired with a shape that's said to sit much closer to the pair MJ laced up that year.

If you know the 6, you know the look. Officially listed as White/Light Crimson-Black, the upper stays crisp and white, black details frame the build, and that unmistakable Infrared shade pops up on the midsole and beyond. Reports suggest the Infrared tone itself stays true to the original, too, which matters on a colourway this well known.

Nike Air, Where It Belongs

The real talking point is round the back. When this colourway returned in 2010 and again in 2014, Jordan Brand swapped the original Nike Air hit on the heel tab for a Jumpman. Fine on paper, but for anyone who grew up with the 1991 pair, it never felt quite right.

For 2026, Nike Air is back in its rightful spot. It's a small change on the surface, yet it's exactly the kind of detail collectors notice first.

Back in Shape

Branding wasn't the only gripe with past retros. Both the 2010 and 2014 releases drifted away from the original mould, with proportions that looked a little off next to the 1991 pair. Early looks suggest this version corrects that, bringing the silhouette closer to how the 6 was first designed.

It also marks the first time in twelve years that this colourway has come back, and it won't be the last Jordan 6 news for a while: a Jordan 6 'Carmine' is already expected to follow in 2027.

How about the Drop Date?

Jordan Brand hasn't confirmed a UK release date or retail price for the Air Jordan 6 'White Infrared' yet. Internationally, early November 2026 is the window being floated, with pairs expected through Nike SNKRS and select Jordan Brand retailers.
