adidas Wants You to Put Its New Slides in the Freezer

Most slides go straight from the box to your feet. This pair takes a detour via the freezer first. At its Home of Innovation summit at HQ in Germany, adidas pulled the covers off the Climacool Recovery Slides, a concept designed to cool your feet down after a hard session.

It's not something you can buy just yet. For now, it's a proper glimpse at where adidas is taking recovery footwear, and it looks a bit like an ice pack you can wear.

Built for the Cool-Down

The idea comes from the adidas APEX Center, the team that works directly with athletes on new products. It's refreshingly simple: pop the slides in the freezer, then slip them on after training or a match to bring the temperature down.

Doing the heavy lifting are 15 gel-filled cooling chambers. Eleven of them sit in the footbed and the other four are built into the wide strap across the forefoot. Early reports suggest you get up to around half an hour of cooling before they need another trip to the freezer.

The outer layer is a silicone skin, and underneath it adidas has tucked in HyperBOOST Pro foam for cushioning. The semi-translucent finish lets you see the chambers through the material, which is a big part of the look.

Printed, Not Moulded

If the name Climacool rings a bell, that's because adidas used the same Rapid Liquid Printing tech for its 3D-printed Climacool trainer. Here, the process takes roughly seven hours of printing, followed by a five-hour gel bath to cure the material.

It's also not the first time adidas has gone after heat this year. At the 2026 World Cup, the brand's Climacool System cooling vests turned up in team training camps, so the slides feel like the next chapter in the same story.

How about the Drop Date?

There's no release date, UK price or colourway line-up for the Climacool Recovery Slides yet. adidas is still calling them a concept, so it could be a while before they land in shops.

Need something for your feet in the meantime? You'll find the current slides range at adidas UK.
