Off-White

The OFF-White fashion label was founded by American designer Virgil Abloh in 2013.
The brand was considered the first to combine high-end and streetwear, resulting in modern designs characterised by quotation marks.
The sneaker world also embraced the designs of Abloh. It's no wonder that OFF-White is still a well-known brand among sneakerheads worldwide thanks to collaborations such as "The Ten," which he did with Nike (2017), as well as his own silhouettes.

The History of Off-White

2012

Abloh started OFF-White in 2012 while working for Fendi and Kanye West's agency DONDA. Back then, the brand was called PYREX Vision. As a first project, he transformed Ralph Lauren shirts into PYREX shirts with unique makeovers.

2013

The Off-White brand made its debut in Milan, Italy. Modern details like zip-ties, PVC tape, and capital letters in the designs set the brand apart from the competition.
A year after OFF-White was founded, Virgil Abloh was selected for the LVMH Prize, an honour given to designers worldwide, and opened the first OFF-White store in Tokyo.

2017

Abloh was commissioned by Nike in 2017 to design iconic Nike silhouettes. A collection of ten sneakers, including the Air Jordan 1 High, Air Force 1 and Air Presto, each dressed with OFF-White details, has resulted from the collaboration between OFF-White and Nike - one of the most influential crossovers to this day.

2018

Swedish interior design company IKEA joins forces with OFF-White. Items from the collection include rugs, clock bags adorned with well-known terms like "KEEP OFF" and "SCULPTURES".
Louis Vuitton appoints Abloh as Artistic Director of its menswear line that same year. His designs for Louis Vuitton were recognisable among thousands and influenced by streetwear.

2020

OFF-White and Nike join forces once again. This time around, the Air Jordan 4 is dressed in a sleek, beige design with OFF-White branding.
The colorway of the sneaker became an instant hit among sneaker enthusiasts and continues to be popular today.

Off-White Today

At the age of 41, Abloh abruptly passed away in late 2021. He suffered from a rare form of cancer for an extended period of time. Abloh's final Louis Vuitton collection was shown on an elaborate runway in early 2022.
Ib Kamara continued the OFF-White line after Abloh died. OFF-White is still one of the most popular brands among streetwear and high-end fashion enthusiasts. As for sneakers, the brand still releases new models on a regular basis.
