JW Anderson Gives UGG's Classic Boot and Tasman a Penny Loafer Makeover

Jonathan Anderson and loafers go way back, so it was only a matter of time before he got his hands on something cosy. For his first-ever collab with UGG, the Irish designer has taken two of the brand's best-known silhouettes, the Classic Boot and the Tasman, and given them the penny loafer treatment.

The result is a unisex capsule made up of two styles: the UGG x JW Anderson Loafer and the Loafer Boot.

Fronting the campaign is musician Dev Hynes, better known as Blood Orange. Styled by Anderson himself, the shoot keeps things low-key and homely, following Hynes through everyday routines from getting dressed to simply getting on with his day.

Fitting, really, for shoes that seem just as happy on the sofa as they are out on the street.

A Closer Look at the UGG x JW Anderson Loafer and Loafer Boot...

Rather than rebuilding UGG's classics from scratch, Anderson has kept their familiar proportions largely intact. What changes is the detailing up front.

Box-stitching and a rounded toe, both lifted straight from the penny loafer and a signature of the JW Anderson label, sit on top of UGG's cushioned build and signature materials. The pair pictured on UGG's site comes in suede with a plush sheepskin lining, with co-branded JW Anderson and UGG tabs on the side.

Colour-wise, Anderson personally picked three shades: Khaki, Orange and Chestnut.

Chestnut is classic UGG territory, but the Orange is the one that grabs your attention. It's a bolder move than the earthy palette the brand usually sticks to, and Khaki lands nicely somewhere in between.

If Anderson's name rings a bell from your sneaker rotation, that'll be his previous projects with Converse and UNIQLO. This one swaps canvas for sheepskin, but the playful approach feels very much the same.
