Ballet-inspired sneakers are taking over, and adidas is getting in on the action. After the buzz around the PUMA Speedcat Ballet, adidas is bringing back the Taekwondo silhouette, but with a fresh, dance-inspired twist.
First released in 1988 for the sport of taekwondo, the adidas Taekwondo made a comeback in 2019 with a double cupsole. Now, in 2025, it’s transforming once again, this time as the sleek, minimalist Taekwondo Mei Ballet.
This new version strips down the design to its essentials, removing the upper and relying on laces for support, giving it the aesthetic of a classic ballet shoe. A gum sole is placed strategically on the forefoot and heel to complete the retro look while providing great traction.
The branding is subtle but still iconic, with the adidas three stripes on the midfoot and a logo detail on the heel. The Taekwondo Mei Ballet will come in three versatile colourways: ‘Silver’, ‘Cloud White’, and ‘Core Black’. The last two are releasing tomorrow.
Both colourways, ‘Cloud White’, and ‘Core Black’, are set to drop on April 1, 2025 – and nope, this isn’t an April Fool’s joke. Make sure to check The Drop Date calendar for a full list of where to grab them.
The sneaker, or ballerina, will arrive at adidas and select retailers on April 1, 2025. Keep an eye on the Drop Date calendar for updates on the release.
