After a 6 year drought, the iconic duo is back to give us Rihanna’s FENTY x PUMA Avanti. Routed in a dynamic partnership that dates back to 2014, global star Rhianna Fenty has had her fair share of W’s as PUMA’s creative director of womenswear. The influence of the Grammy award winner cannot be denied, bringing a distinctive contemporary flair to the German sportswear brand. Of course, anything linked to RiRi will always be met with high expectations. And from the looks of this collab, we certainly aren’t disappointed.
From the notorious PUMA Fenty Creeper to the Bow Sneaker, if there’s one thing that Rihanna has down to a T, it’s range. Her lifestyle-oriented PUMA models took the world by storm; gradually transitioning into an apparel line that debuted at 2016’s New York Fashion Week. It’s no surprise that the artist has a clear creative vision, and will always make sure it’s executed to the highest standard. The last sighting of PUMA Fenty was back in 2017, at the Fashion Week debut of the partnerships SS18 presentation. In a statement released a month later, Rihanna announced that the PUMA Fenty journey would be coming to a close. And that was the end of that. Or so we thought. In March 2023, PUMA released a cryptic image depicting the words ‘she’s back’, alongside the unmistakable collaborative branding. It’s safe to say that we’re gassed.
In terms of the upcoming collaboration at hand, the pair have chosen to reimagine the 2001 Avanti model. Arriving in two colourways of Black and Aged Silver, the model is a perfect example of urban streamlined style. Boasting a metallic exterior that oozes high fashion steeze, the Silver Aventi is a smooth blend of old and new. Let’s call it futuristic nostalgia. The fundamentally vintage silhouette features a folded tongue, which is also dripping in a shiny metallic textile. A gum outsole and white midsole willingly lends the spotlight to the upper, grounding this sleek pair of kicks.
The Black colourway opts for a far more retro approach, proudly repping the football DNA of the Avanti. A black leather base is complemented by cream accents within the Formstrips, midsole and folded tongue, championing the vintage vibes. The same gum hue within the Aged Silver is evident within the outer, as well as insole lining. Gold foil branding takes centre stage on the folded tongue, reminding us who we have to thank for these fire models.
The FENTY x PUMA Avanti will drop tomorrow (15TH SEPT 23). Dropping in a range of sizes for all of the family, you can ensure that your tribe is dripped out in this Rihanna-coded heat.
