Kim Jones reveals the confirmed NIKE X DIOR AIR JORDAN CAPSULE, which effortlessly marries haute couture with high-performance sportswear…
The high-end sneaker game has been thriving for a while now, with news of a collaboration between adidas and Prada followed swiftly by word of Jordan Brand linking up with Dior for this extremely decadent take on the AIR JORDAN 1 in both Mid and Low forms. Rumoured to be the most expensive AJ1 of all time, Dior’s art director Kim Jones explains the shoe as a meeting of two worlds that captures the spirit of the moment. Celebrating the 35th anniversary year of the Jumpman’s Air Jordan line, the shoe is crafted in Italy to very high standards, utilising the same fine calf-leather as Maison Dior’s leather goods. Edge-painted and dressed in Dior Gray, a colour synonymous with the Maison since its founding in 1947, a tweaked version of the iconic Jumpman Wings logo appears embossed on the upper with the words “AIR DIOR.” The swoosh then adopts a Dior Oblique jacquard, a single motif simultaneously representing both camps.
The shoe will be accompanied by a small apparel drop which utilises Dior’s high fashion expertise with Nike’s sporting prowess. The result is a mix of powerful hybrid garments, including cashmere sweaters, shirts, tailoring, polo shirts and basketball gear with a very elegant twist.
The NIKE X DIOR AIR COLLECTION is due to release on WEDNESDAY 8 JULY: hit the banner below for stockist information.
