Nike Celebrates 25 years of the Air Max Plus with a Special Drop

Signifying 25 years of innovation, the Swoosh welcome the Nike Air Max Plus 25th Anniversary.

Happy 25th Birthday to none other than the Nike Air Max Plus! Marking relevance in the sneaker realm for a quarter of a century, the Swoosh are treating us to an extra special serving of the classic. After all, how else would we celebrate!? Sure, we have the AMP to thank for a plethora of vibrant bangers, but there’s more than what meets the eye within this DNA-rich-sneaker. Brought into fruition in 1998 by designer Sean McDowell, the model marked the first of its kind to prioritise zonal cushioning within the construction. Formed utilising compressed air, the robust polyurethane cushion comes fitted with distinctive rubber hemispheres. Technical jargon aside – the innovative construction ensures accelerated comfort, designed to adhere perfectly to the athlete’s foot. Although we don’t typically see sportspeople knocking about in Air Max Plus’ anymore, the sneaker’s impact still remains one for the books.

So, how does one go about designing an iteration for such a momentous occasion? By incorporating elements from the best predecessors, obvs. The Swoosh decided to reach out to the global TN Community, who participated in a vote to rank their top four best releases of all time. The outcome depicts a flawlessly constructed Air Max Plus, paying homage to colourway’s Sanguine, Fireberry, Hyper Blue and Palm. 

A limited-edition Swoosh release is always a treat, and this iteration is as sweet as can be. Paying homage to the timeless Florida-coded exterior implemented since OG, this exclusive kicks flaunt an attractive display of blue and varsity red. A crinkled paper effect runs across the upper, incorporating the unique flair that we’ve come to expect from the TN. Keeping things authentic to the heritage, the striking yellow emblem rounds off this special pair, finished with visible Air units for unparalleled comfort. 

The TN’s Big 25th also lands alongside sneaker-specific book, created in partnership with Foot Locker and Sneaker Freaker. Featuring everything from the life of the model, interviews and of course lots of product, there isn’t a better way to mark the celebratory event.
