Nike Air Max 1 Athletic Dept. | The Nike Athletic Department Pack

The Nike Air Max 1 Athletic Dept. is on its way – arriving as the latest affiliate of the 2023 Nike Athletic Department Pack. 

The Athletic Department is an in-house capsule, whereby Nike combine iconic models such as the Nike Dunk Low 85 and Nike P-6000 with a sleek athletic reimagining. Now, it’s the Air Max 1’s turn, sporting a clean persona that’s dripping in vintage nostalgia. This sleek capsule collection arrives amongst an iconic year of Nike collaborations, from Tiffany & Co. to AMBUSH, so it makes sense for the Swoosh dominator to strip things back to their sportswear roots.

Hitting the streets in a retro-esque palette of beige, white, navy and emerald green, this Air Max iteration initially feels understated until we dig into the details. A white tight-knit mesh adopts the base of the silhouette, overtly contrasted with a deep navy suede mudguard that’s adorned with a small woven Swoosh. Soft beige panelling accommodates a Swoosh of the same blue shade, which also features in the heel panelling and multihued outsole. 

The iteration sits atop a yellowed midsole, acting as an integral feature in communicating a vintage-feel. Off-white laces help to further emulate this retro personality whilst shifting our focus to deep green accents within the eyelets and Nike branding on the tongue, insole and heel. The insole “Nike Athletic Dept.” logo reminds us of the OG 1975 Nike running shoe collection that was titled (you guessed it!) The Athletic Department.
