The LIMITEDITIONS x DIADORA N9000 ‘CORREFOCS’ is an explosive, fire-filled release that celebrates ‘Ball de diables’: a traditional form of medieval street theatre that originated in Barcelona almost 1000 years ago.
Correfocs originate from a form of medieval street theatre called ‘Ball de Diables’, representing the fight of good against evil. According to Joan Amades, an outstanding ethnologist and Catalan folklorist, in 1150, at the wedding banquet of the Compte de Barcelona, Berenguer IV with Princess Peronella, the first documented Colla de Diables took place. Hundreds of years later, during the dictatorship, Spanish dictator Franco banned many aspects of Catalan culture. When Franco’s dictatorship fell with his death in 1975, the Catalan tradition was reborn with ferocious new energy after decades of suppression, birthing its modern form known as Correfocs – fire runs.
Following their ‘Castellers’ collaboration, LimitEDitions have reunited once again with Diadora. This special N9000 channels the mischievous attitudes, energies and atmosphere of the modern-day Correfocs. Featuring a fiery red toe box and rich black leather panels, the embroidered motif on the heel shows an explosion of sparks to represent the costumes and fireworks that illuminate the Correfocs processions.
