Since their very first collaboration in 2020, it’s clear that J Balvin x Air Jordan are a creative force to be reckoned with. From making history as the first Latino artist to partner with the Swoosh, to every release selling out in a day, it’s no wonder that the alliance has been so successful, combining the indisputable quality of Jumpman with the Colombian-star’s creative mind and personality. In this round-up, we’ll be taking a look at each offering from the pair, updated with the news of any upcoming releases.
Drop Date: 8th December 2020
Starting with the duo’s first ever release, it’s the J Balvin x AJ1 ‘Colores Y Vibras’. Paying homage to the artists previous albums in the name, and vibrant personality in the palette, this isn’t the type of sneaker that’s forgotten easily. The release of the collaborative AJ1 arrived as a full circle moment for the reggaeton singer, having received the model from his cousins who would bring them from the U.S. to Colombia. Expressing a bold multi-hued exterior that’s definitely turning a few heads on the street, the Jumpman logo graces the woven upper. Jagged edges throughout the body only add to the visually exuberant persona, setting the bar high for the duo’s iterations going forward.

Less colourful than the previous AJ1, but no less imaginative, the second collaborative sneaker arrives in a serene ‘Celestine Blue’ hue. Drawing resemblance to an idyllic sky on a summer’s day, the kicks are adorned with captivating details throughout. Cloud graphics grace the mudguards, heels and insole, whilst ribstop sidewall overlays adopt a baby blue hue. Adding another layer of dimension is subtle orange contrast stitching lining each panel. And just when you thought this sneaker couldn’t get anymore celestial, you catch sight of the glow-in-the-dark Wings logo situated at the tongue. With a unique light-up element as well as premium materials, this release proves that the sky really is the limit.

Landing in conjunction with the AJ2 Retro, the Super Play ‘Celestine Blue’ is a pair of slides on drugs. Embracing the glow-in-the-dark wave, the mint green midsole provides the ideal base for the playful lace strap to thrive. Featuring fun rainbow stitching, puffy segments and J Balvin’s signature smiley motif, the strap keeps things both dynamic and lighthearted.

A whole year post glow-in-the-dark endeavours, Jumpman and the Prince of Reggaeton reunited with the highly-anticipated Air Jordan 3 ‘Medellín Sunset’. Boasting a predominantly beige exterior, this AJ3 iteration draws inspiration from a personal angle. The tonal rear references the sunsets in the artist’s hometown of Medellín, Colombia. Expressed in a spectrum of purple, orange and yellow hues, this eye-catching element brings personality to the kicks – not uncommon with J Balvin x AJ. If the gradience wasn’t enough to deliver striking flair, then the heel branding definitely does. Wrapping up the kicks are the singer’s signature smiley face and Nike emblem adorned on the right and left heel, affirming the partnership’s creative success.

Drop Date: Summer 2024
First clocked on-foot whilst the Columbian multi-hyphenate played a game of basketball with Jimmy Butler (as you do), a ‘Rio’ AJ3 is en route for next summer. Imagine having a whole Air Jordan sneaker named you at the ripe age of 2. That’s a flex that J Balvin’s son, Rio, will carry for the rest of his life. Boasting a sleek leather black base, these AJ3’s differ significantly to the light palette of the Medellín Sunset model. ‘Solar Flare’ and ‘Total Crimson Abyss’ hues grace the exterior, communicated through a multi-gradient midsole. It wouldn’t be a J Balvin x Jumpman collaboration without the iconic smiley and co-branding, expected to bring the heat to SS24.
