Nike Air Jordan sneakerheads, we hope you’re ready. Make way for the Air Jordan 38.
As we surpass the middle of the year, Air Jordan fans have been hungry for updates regarding fresh releases. Following teasers from the Jordan brand itself, we can expect to see the Air Jordan 38 arriving very soon, in a colourway that reflects the importance of the drop – ‘Fundamental’, if we do say so ourselves! Due to arrive amongst two other colourways, we’re gassed to welcome the 38th iteration of the legendary Air Jordan family.
Excitement about the Air Jordan 38 aside, let’s take a moment to reflect on the journey that got us here. The iconic Jumpman heritage originated back in 1985, when Nike took a chance on a small, rookie basketball player named Michael Jordan. Heard of him? Thought so. Yet to become the global basketball legend that he’s deemed as today, little did Michael (and Nike) know of the sneaker phenomenon that would reign not only supreme, but maintain longevity as a dominating force in the footwear industry.
Originally turning heads by standing out from conventional basketball shoes at the time, the black, red and white Air Jordan 1 was an expensive choice for Michael Jordan when he stepped onto the court. Rumoured to have been fined $5,000 per game by the NBA, this infamous coverage spread like wildfire in the wider market, only increasing popularity surrounding the silhouette. And just like that, the Air Jordan legacy was born.
Sporting a vibrant high-top silhouette, the sought-after nature of the Air Jordan 1 stemmed from both its distinctive look and performance technology. Premium leather and synthetic materials seamlessly provided the sneaker with comfort and endurance, flaunting colour-rich panelling that became integral DNA within the bloodline that followed.
And now, almost 40 years later, we’re weeks away from getting our hands on the Air Jordan 38. Drawing similarities to the Air Jordan 37 (in that both are inspired by the Air Jordan 8), this brand new model utilises previous design features to produce something fresh and innovative in structure and appearance alike. A newly implemented X-Plate supports agile movement through maintaining foot placement over the footbed, whilst nodding to the X shaped straps of the AJ8.
Herringbone patterning adopts the sole unit, adorned with performance enhancers such as a full-length Zoom Strobel component and CushIon 3.0 alliance – intended for responsive cushioning. Entering the market as AJ’s most sustainably-crafted model so far, 20% of the Air Jordan 38 is composed using recycled textile.
The Air Jordan 38 ‘Fundamental’ will be available to buy on 18TH AUGUST 2023 via NIKE & SELECTED RETAILERS. Stay locked on our socials @thedropdate for the latest sneaker drops and updates.
