The second drop of the GOSHA RUBCHINSKIY AW16 COLLECTION has landed, hot on the collaborative heels of the Russian designer’s Reebok ‘PACCBET’ footwear.
As always, there’s a lot going on here and not all of it is for the faint-hearted: shirts and sweatpants with double cuffs might not be everybody’s cup of vodka, even if they’re guaranteed to catch the street style paparazzi’s attention. But beyond that, there are many pieces that distil Rubchinskiy’s fascination with Russian youth culture into something just as distinct but much more wearable.
Entitled ‘Save and Survive’, the collection ranges from accessories to outerwear and takes inspiration from the 1980s Milanese ‘rich kids’, military uniforms and the Russian football underground. Highlights include oversized jacquard camo knitwear, a sweater with panels designed to resemble football scarves, and creased sweatpants with the same Russia-in-the-1980s vibe of the Reebok collab. An unusual dark green overdyed denim is used on a high-collared military-style coat and a utility vest, while further army influence comes in the form of a faux-leather flight jacket with velcro patches.
