The History of Autry
Autry's story begins in 1982 in Dallas, America. Jim Autry was trying to find tennis shoes. Not finding any suitable sneakers, he came up with his own sneaker: the Medalist.
The Medalist, a sleek sneaker that featured high-quality leather, was named the best tennis shoe in 1985. Its upper featured the American flag - a characteristic that makes Autry sneakers still recognisable today.
After Jim Autry passed away, Autry disappeared off the radar as no one took over the brand. In 2019, Italian Marco Doro and his two business partners Gino Zarrelli and Alberto Raengo acquired the brand to continue Autry's legacy without altering the sneakers' signature appearance.
While the three new owners have Italian roots, the silhouette of the Autry models retains its 1980s aesthetic. The American flag is still present on the silhouette and does not seem to be going anywhere anytime soon.
