The buzz on the recently retro’d Nike Air Max 97 has been unprecedented – and with good reason. Christian Tresser’s futuristic design (apparently inspired by mountain bikes, rather than the age-old tale of high-speed Bullet trains) rocked the spot, with contours and curves that gave the shoe a true feeling of speed and momentum. The original design still looks great, but this new hybrid model adds the upper from the Air Max Plus – or TN, as most prefer to call it – to dramatic effect. The flat sole on the original design of the 97 provided a solid, straightforward platform underfoot, but the contours of the 97 sole emphasize the curves of the Plus' upper panels.
