After lifting the OG Gel Mai colourway out of their archives back in April, the eye-catching silhouette returns with a collaborative spin from Japanese retailer, mita sneakers. An edgy model, the Gel Mai received mixed reviews on its inception back in 1999, but it’s off kilter mix of webbed panellings and out-of-the-ordinary lacing system has always made it a favourite with true ASICS heads. For this collaboration, mita merge the model with design cues from their Gel-Lyte III Leopard from 2010, utilising a light-changing print across the uppers along with an injection of shock-absorbing fuzeGEL to the usual midsole, borrowed from the brand’s fuzeX silhouette. A nod to the partnership is contained on dual-branded inner soles, sealing the deal on a joint project that makes a hella lot of sense.
