The SNEAKERSNSTUFF X BROOKS REGENT AMERICAN DREAM takes inspiration from a classic Oscar-winning Swedish movie.
Back in the middle of the 19th century, times were pretty rough in Sweden, which resulted in over 1 million people leaving Sweden and searching for a better life in America. In 1949, the famous Swedish author Vilhelm Moberg, wrote about this mass emigration in a book entitled ‘The Emigrants’. Years later, in 1971, the story was adapted into a film, that went on to win both an Oscar and a Golden Globe for best foreign film.
In the film, you will follow Karl-Oskar and his wife Kristina, as well as many others, on what was then a long and hard journey from Sweden to America. Their journey sees them sail on the wooden ship ‘Charlotta’ for many a month, before landing in the port of New York. The film then continues by following the lead characters in their search for a new place to call home in America.
The SNEAKERSNSTUFF X BROOKS REGENT AMERICAN DREAM takes its inspiration from the movie and the certain scenes within it. The upper is constructed in a striped fabric, which is a nod to the clothes often worn by the people moving to America during the 1850s. This is combined with black leather, which helps to tone things down and make them an easy-to-wear combination. The black continues onto the stylised TPU chevron and the dual-branding on the tongues. Down below, the midsole combines white and light grey to tie in with the upper, punctuated by visible cushioning in the heel and rounded off by a black outsole. Final detailing includes a wooden ship graphic embossed on the heel panels and the word Karlshamn, the Swedish port, printed on the lateral side of the right heel and Charlotta, the name of the ship, on the left. SNEAKERSNSTUFF have created some great collaborations inspired by their country’s history and these are a very worthy addition to the list.
