Saturday saw the inaugural #Sneakerbox event hit Bristol, and with the promise of a pile of kicks, discounts from hand picked local retailers, good burgers and beer you know we had to check it out!

Bristol has always had a strong streetwear scene and footwear following, so to be honest a Crepe City style trainer market event was overdue – it was good to see the crew behind Sneakerbox make moves and do what others had only talked about.  With a decent venue in the Big Chill Bar, support from the Crepe City crew and local independent sneaker spots like Cooshti and 5 Pointz, the signs looked good.

Come the Sunday, the sun was out as the sellers stacked their boxes, and a decent queue of sole seekers rocking their weekend best built up as the doors opened. Inside the event wasn’t massive, but the tables were varied and well stocked, the vibes were good, and the Big Chill’s bar and terrace areas proved great places for heads to relax, enjoy the excellent burger menu and talk shoes, while the DJ pumped out a great selection of chilled beats.

Sales tables came from private collectors and reseller crews, along with a stand from Bristol’s own Cooshti, meaning the selection varied widely in brands, models and prices, with everything from the latest Ronnie Fieg collabs to vintage Brooks running shoes making an appearance.  Those who had come to browse and buy were also a mixed bunch, and whilst there were definitely a few clueless ‘Joey Freshex’ wannabes on a Huarache hunt, they were thankfully heavily outnumbered by people with a genuine love for the subject matter, and the amount of heat on people’s feet was seriously impressive.  Shout to @andyknwn for bringing out the Tinker Hatfield signed Pattas, @willholmes94 for the Solebox 1500s, and to @sneaker52 for blowing people’s minds with the Air Max 90 Current Kaws!

Whilst it’s not yet a huge event, we had a blast at #Sneakerbox and it was a huge success in terms of atmosphere, proving beyond any doubt that Bristol belongs on the sneaker event map.  Hats off to the team for pulling it out the bag, we’re looking forward to seeing how big the sequel is!
