Changing Properties with the NIKE x A–COLD–WALL* CAPSULE COLLECTION

The NIKE x A–COLD–WALL* CAPSULE COLLECTION offers a unique take on the Zoom Vomero +5 silhouette from 2010, exploring how garments and footwear age over time and comparing their active and inactive states.

A fairly obscure shoe from Nike’s 2010 line-up, the Zoom Vomero +5 has been chosen for this new collaboration, which follows from 2017’s Air Force 1 project. with NikeLab. Stripped of its PU coatings in order to accelerate the ageing process, the Vomero’s appearance is designed to change over time.

“With the Vomero, there has been this opportunity to really exalt the technology of its time and modernize the aesthetic, which is uncompromised to its purpose and function,” says ACW’s Samuel Ross. “It’s interesting to look at a shoe which has such a beautiful and polished wireframe, and then to be able to isolate individual aspects of that shoe, to really exalt the technology. It is very exciting to take something that is very beautiful and to not necessarily reinterpret but to reevaluate the product”.

To accompany the two colourways of the Vomero, a small apparel collection will drop as well, including a parka jacket, rendered in a special Japanese nylon that changes properties over time, and an industrial-inspired cropped pant.

In addition to this collaboration, new images of a forthcoming low-cut ACW x Air Force 1 emerged recently, sharing the same stitch-formed Swoosh outline as seen on the previous incarnation.
