[ THE DROP DATE ]
We recently dropped a feature on hybrids and the Nike SB Lunar Rod is definitely masterminded from the same operating theatre as those other beautiful beasts… and thank the lord it’s alive.
Belonging to the SB crew, it premiered a little while back in a collaboration with Primitive, Mr Rod’s own Skate Store, and paying massive props to the immortal Safari, even the purest of us cant hate on the shoe, because there’s no denying, that make-up is so damn nice.
But lets talk about the sole unit for a second. As soon as you fuse the double-stacked lunarlon midsole together with a ridged outsole, you’re taking next level stuff, to the next level.
Whilst people are still coming to terms with the LunarLon FitSole, we’ve now got to get our heads round the fact its just added offroad, sand, snow and street to its daily diet of terrains. Though it’s safe to say you’d be nuts to try and skate in them.
It works brilliantly on the Braata, which made itself known as part of the dope Stussy OMS collection a few weeks back. Then there’s the LunarRidge, which has snuck in to the mix totally under radar due to it ranging in this seasons Nike Snowboarding collection (We’ll be taking a closer look at it real soon) but as a truly technical sole unit, it’s pretty much on point.
The Lunar Rods black upper is constructed of a durable brushed suede, with the signature huarache inspired heel support and the 3M swoosh the only overlays to break rank on the colourblocking. Sitting on top of what we class as the best sole unit of 2012 so far, the Nike SB Lunar Rod is one we happily welcome in to the hybrid fam, with outstretched open arms.
As soon as we hear who’s stocking the Black / White / Grey colourway in the UK, we’ll be sure to post it up on our RELEASES page.
